A body recovered in Gloucester on Friday is believed to be that of David LaForge, a 51-year-old Northumberland resident who was reported missing by the Northumberland County Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 25.

“We’re pretty confident that it is him,” said Major W.A. Webb Jr., Chief Deputy for the Lancaster Sheriff’s Office. Webb said LaForge left his workplace in the Burgess area of Northumberland in the evening of Aug. 23 and was believed to have been murdered in Lancaster County during the early morning hours of Aug. 24.

LaForge’s body was then brought to Gloucester, where Lancaster investigators recovered it in the marsh at the end of Maryus Road on Friday. Webb said a positive identification of the body is pending with the medical examiner’s office.

Also, on Friday, Webb said Lancaster investigators arrested Jacob Michael Monday, 20, of Mary Ball Road in Lancaster in connection with LaForge’s death. Monday was charged with first-degree murder, concealing a dead body, and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Webb said the investigation into LaForge’s death is continuing.
