A man wanted on charges out of Tennessee was arrested in Gloucester Tuesday after the SUV he was driving struck a tractor-trailer on Route 17.

Virginia State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya said the two-vehicle accident occurred at 5:10 a.m. Tuesday on Route 17 at Adner Road. She said a 2018 Toyota RAV 4 was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Route 17 when it struck a 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer.

Anaya said the tractor trailer driver attempted to swerve out of the path of the Toyota but its cab was struck by the SUV.

The Toyota driver, Stacey Paul Dyer, 44, of Kingsport, Tennessee, was arrested on a warrant of extradition for fleeing justice in Tennessee on two charges of raping a child and two charges of aggravated sexual battery along with charges of violating probation, failure to appear, having no vehicle insurance, and driving while his license was suspended.

Dyer was also charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, giving a false identity to a law enforcement officer, driving without a license and reckless driving, all in connection with the accident. Dyer was transported to the Gloucester Jail and was held without bond.
