The Guinea Heritage Association invites the community to a Meet the Artists Reception at 2 p.m. Sunday at Buck Rowe’s General Store Museum in Bena.

The artists competing in this year’s Guinea Jubilee Fine Art and Photography contests will be introduced at 2:30 and all the Fine Art and Photography entries will be on display.

The selected Fine Art entry will become the official Guinea Jubilee print, while the winning photograph will be included in the official Guinea Heritage Museum Photography Collection.

Thanks to the sponsorship of Hogg Funeral Home, the artist of the winning entry for the fine art print will be awarded $750 and be recognized at the unveiling at the Guinea Heritage Day reception. The runner-up will receive a $100 prize.

The first-place winner of the photography contest will receive $500 and will also be recognized at Guinea Heritage Day; the runner-up will get $50.

Guinea Heritage Day will be held on Sunday, Sept. 8. For the first time, Achilles Elementary School will serve as host to accommodate this growing program. In addition to the announcement of the Fine Art and Photography winners, Guinea Heritage Day will also include the announcement of the Achilles student art winners and the 2019 Guinea Jubilee grand marshal.

Of course, the program wouldn’t be compete without the Guinea Jubilee Cake Auction and the Miss Guinea Jubilee Beauty Pageant, a release stated. The doors to Achilles Elementary will open at 1:30 p.m. for the 2 o’clock program.

All of this is leading up to the 40th annual Guinea Jubilee Festival, which will be held at the Abingdon Ruritan Club grounds in Bena from 3-10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27 and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28.
