Donations are being taken for the Mathews Christmas Store, a long-running project of Mathews Social Services and community volunteers. The store will be open Dec. 7 and 8 at the Kingston Episcopal Church parish house, Mathews.

“Monetary donations are being accepted, along with new toys, clothing, household items, jewelry and cosmetics,” Christmas Store coordinator Bernadette La Casse said. Used items are not needed, she added.

The store allows social services clients to pick out gifts for loved ones. Last year it served 504 people and 49 children participated in the Elf Shop, picking out presents for their parents or guardians.

“There is a continued need for this type of support as many families do not have extra money to buy Christmas gifts,” La Casse said.

Monetary donations may be sent to Mathews Department of Social Services, P.O. Box 925, Mathews, Va. 23109. Unwrapped gifts may be taken through Dec. 5 to Mathews Social Services located at 536 Church Street.
