Monday is the deadline to register in order to be eligible to vote in this year’s Nov. 6 general election.

For Gloucester and Mathews voters, this year’s ballot includes races for 1st Congressional District and U.S. Senate, as well as two amendments to the state constitution.

To register to vote in Virginia, you must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of Virginia, at least 18 years old by Election Day, have had voting rights restored if convicted of a felony, and have had capacity restored by court order if declared mentally incapacitated.

Voter registration can be done online (vote.virginia.gov), in person at the local voter registration office, or mail in a completed voter registration application to the local voter registration office or the state Department of Elections.

Voter registration forms are available at all DMV customer service centers, social service offices, locations that offer hunting and fishing licenses, local voter registration offices, the state Department of Elections, and many other public locations such as local libraries.

Absentee voting is already underway for next month’s election. For more information, visit the Gloucester Voter Registrar’s website at www.gloucesterva.info or the Mathews Voter Registrar’s website at www.mathewscountyva.gov; or call the Gloucester office at 804-693-3659 or the Mathews office at 804-725-3200.
