Home Care Associates, LLC, a relatively new business headquartered in Gloucester, has recently partnered with Riverside Health System in its ChooseHome program.

HCA, which specializes in allowing people to retire and thrive in the comfort of their own home, offers a number of services ranging from personal care to light housekeeping and medication reminders.

Ebony Nickens, who owns the business alongside Latosha Veney, both of Newport News, said HCA officially opened in Gloucester in 2018 at a location on Main Street. The headquarters has now moved a bit south on Main Street and is located off Teagle Lane.

Nickens said the business took off, with referrals coming in the week it opened. Since then, the business has been expanding, and just recently opened another office in Urbanna to better serve clients in Middlesex and points north.

She said the company has around 50 employees, ranging from CNAs to nursing assistants to personal care aides, LPNs and RNs.

“We offer a very close-knit work environment,” Nickens said. “Our clients know they can reach us anytime and not get a recording.”

She said their clients also like the fact that they are locally-owned and when intakes are done, they are done personally and not by a random person of a large organization. “We know each and every client like the back of our hands,” Nickens said.

She said she comes from a background in human resources, while her business partner has a 20-plus year background in nursing. The two are originally from Lancaster. “We’re both home girls and know a lot of people in the area,” Nickens added.

Riverside’s ChooseHome program brings clients individualized support they need to remain living in their own home safely and comfortable for as long as possible.
