King’s Daughters and Sons Convention held in Gloucester

Among those attending the Nov. 2 KDS Convention at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Gloucester were, from left, Gloria Torrence of the Virginia Beach City Union Circle and vice president of the Virginia Branch; Founders Award for Community Service recipients Mary Alice Woerner of Ware Circle, Patty Kane of Virginia Beach City Union Circle, and Sandra Pace, president of the Virginia Branch and a member of the York River Circle.
Le discussed the need for a 60-bed facility to treat children and teens with mental illness, to provide emergency room services, and to offer easily accessible outpatient mental health appointments.
The meeting was hosted by North River, Ware River and York River circles. Fifty-seven women and men attended. After a busy morning, the group had a luncheon with door prizes. In addition, the women’s ensemble from Grace Covenant presented a musical program.
Deborah Dorn won the raffle prize: A stained-glass blue heron made and donated by Angel Rowe.
The 13 KDS Circles that participated have been in existence for 125 years, said a press release, and their mission is to take on projects that benefit the community.
