Bethany UMC gives $22,000 in Bazaar proceeds to charitable groups

Bethany United Methodist Church, Gloucester Point, recently disbursed $22,000 to 23 United Methodist agencies and local groups that work to improve lives and help persons in need. The money came from proceeds, all designated for missions, raised from Bethany’s 2018 biennial Bazaar.

Those in attendance were Jack Whitmore (Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue), Tina Thomas (Alzheimer’s Association), Jean Duggan (Bay Aging), Diane Ornsby (Backpack Program for Abingdon Elementary School), John Hasty (Boys & Girls Club of Gloucester), Jim and Monique Raposa (Bread for Life), Ron Rumsey (Camp Rainbow Connection), Tom Phillips (Gloucester Housing Partnership), Arlene Armentor (Gloucester-Mathews Care Clinic), Kristie Askew (Gloucester United Emergency Shelter Team), Mark Tartaglia (Helping Hands Mission Camp), Jennifer Boyden (Heart Havens), Joni Neal (Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society), Cynthia Geisert and Terri Byrne (Literacy Volunteers of Gloucester), Diane Garrison (Mattaponi Healing Eagle Clinic), Pastor Mike Derflinger (Pastor’s Discretionary Fund), Lt. Michael Fadler (Salvation Army), Marsha Germek (Samaritan Group) and A.B. Fulcher and Joel Coates (Union Baptist Church Food Pantry). Recipients from Henderson Settlement, Henry Fork Community Center, Red Bird Mission and Wesley Community Center were unable to attend. The Bazaar Committee will also donate $1,500 to Rise Against Hunger.

Members of the 2018 Bazaar committee were Judy Burner, Donna Andersen, Sue Morecock, Nina Whitmore, Lynda Blubaugh, Joni Neal and Nancy Wilburn.
