Gloucester woman dies in I-64 crash

A 49-year-old Gloucester woman died Saturday after sustaining life-threatening injuries in a vehicle accident last week in Henrico. 

State police said Sharyn Robins, 49, of Gloucester was driving a 2002 Toyota Highlander westbound on Interstate 64 on May 9 when she was struck head-on by a 2002 Jeep Liberty. The eastbound Jeep had crossed the median and gone airborne into the westbound lanes. The accident occurred just before 1 p.m. 

Robins was airlifted to VCU Medical Center where she died Saturday morning, state police said. The driver of the Jeep, a 52-year-old Newport News man, sustained superficial injuries, was transported for treatment and has since been released. 

The Jeep driver was charged with reckless driving and not having an operator’s license. State police did not release his name because the accident is still being investigated. Fatigue was a factor in the crash, state police said.  ...
