Gloucester High School principal Layton H. "Tony" Beverage has been selected to receive the 2010 Outstanding Principal Award from the Curry School of Education Foundation. The award is presented annually to a graduate of the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education.
Beverage has been the GHS principal since 2005. The school has met requirements for full state accreditation each year of his tenure and has met adequate yearly progress goals under the No Child Left Behind Act.
"In just a few years, he has been instrumental in establishing a positive learning environment and dedicated focus on students at Gloucester High School," said Gloucester Public Schools superintendent Ben Kiser, in nominating Beverage for the award. "I see daily his professionalism, enthusiasm and diligence in working with other professionals to help students succeed. He is a consummate teacher and learner."
