The Mathews High School track teams headed off to West Point High School last Wednesday for their final regular season meet against Essex, Washington and Lee and Essex.
Highlights of this meet included senior Sabrina Myers, who earned a spot in the districts through a good showing in the 300-meter hurdles; freshman Justin Adams, who pulled off the "double," or both the 1600m and 3200m run together, earning a spot in the districts with a time of 5:10 in the one-mile and second in the 3200m; and senior Ian Smith, who continued to impress in the 400m, while sophomore Jesse Ingram did the same in the 200m.
"Overall, I am especially looking forward to doing very well in the upcoming district meet," said head coach Tony Forrest. "I’m also especially grateful to the seniors—Nancy (Barnhardt), Ian, Keinan (Triplett), Jonah (West), Mariah (Robinson)—for their contributions to the MHS track and field program."
Both teams took off for West Point yesterday to compete in what is probably their most important meet of this season so far—the Tidewater District championships.
