The Gloucester High School varsity girls lost their first Peninsula District soccer match of the season Tuesday, falling to Menchville 2-0 in a very physical game. Both teams took four unsuccessful shots on goal in the first half. Late in the second, Menchville landed its first goal and five minutes later added another.

Prior to the loss, the Lady Dukes got wins over Bethel and Heritage. The Hurricanes took an early first half lead Friday with a fast break up the middle. Delaney Doyle responded for Gloucester with a goal after a cross from Lauren Organ. Marrianne Warrington added another goal to make it 2-1 at the break.

The Dukes cranked it up in the second half, and Warrington posted another goal from the 20-yard mark. Hanna Harris and Cassidy Goodwin added two goals each for a comfortable lead. Late in the game, Taylor Gamble and Cheyenne Hogge added goals of their own for a 9-1 win over Heritage. Rachael Peterson and Hogge shared the keeper duties.
