Gloucester High School put together a good opening string of plays that led to points, but Granby answered with two big touchdown passes, a scoring punt return and a fourth TD to beat the Dukes, 27-3, in Norfolk on Friday.
The Dukes got on the board first when a 30-yard field goal by Jackson Lowther capped an 11-play, first-quarter drive. Granby quickly responded with a touchdown to make it 6-3. The Comets struck again in the second quarter with another touchdown and a successful two-point conversion to increase their lead to 14-3.
Late in the third quarter, with the Dukes’ offense still struggling, Granby returned a Gloucester punt 43 yards for a touchdown that stretched the lead to 21-3. The Comets also posted a touchdown in the last quarter for the final score of 27-3.
