Athletic programs get underway next week at Gloucester High School, with Monday marking the opening of the 2010 fall season. Practice and tryout times have been announced by GHS activities director Jon Hatch.
Golf tryouts begin Monday at 2 p.m. at the Gloucester Country Club. Golfers must provide their own golf clubs. Girls’ volleyball and field hockey tryouts will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday at GHS.
Boys’ volleyball will practice from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Cross country meets from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Beaverdam Park and Tuesday and Thursday at the GHS track.
Football practice begins a week later, with the first tryout session scheduled for 3 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 9, at GHS.
To try out for any sport, students must have a VHSL physical dated no earlier May 1. Sophomores, juniors and seniors must also have passed five classes last semester and have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher. For more information visit the GHS website or call Hatch at 693-3866.
