Spot and croaker fishing has picked up in and around the York River over the past week, according to Chuck Ashe with York River Feed and Fishing Supplies, Inc., Gloucester Point. Flounder catches have been spotty, however, according to Jerry Thrash of Queens Creek Outfitters, Cobbs Creek.

"Flounder fishing was hit or miss this week in the Buoy 42/Cell area," Thrash said. "Several boats had limits of fish. Others had none."

Cobia continue to be sighted throughout the area, Thrash added, while number-two spot and some number-one spot are biting around Gwynn’s Island, on the Spike and in the mouth of the Piankatank and Rappahannock rivers.
