An "almost one-mile" open water swim will be held at Williams Wharf on the East River, Mathews, on Sunday, Sept. 18.
The fifth annual L. Wayne Hudgins Memorial Wharf to Wharf Swim will benefit the Mathews Land Conservancy. All swimmers in the event, which goes from Williams Wharf to Hicks Wharf and back, must have at least $100 in sponsorships, a flyer said.
The organization, which owns and maintains Williams Wharf Landing and other sites in Mathews, said money raised will benefit the boathouse project at the East River site.
The swim is open to people of all ages and abilities, and swim aids are permitted, according to the organizers. Prizes will be given to the top three fundraisers.
For more information, to sign up to swim, or to sponsor a swimmer, call Mathews Land Conservancy at 725-9685, or contact Mimi Ulsaker at 693-5160 or email@example.com.
The swim is open to spectators, and a display of historic photographs will be staged at the adjacent B. Williams & Co. store museum.
