The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ track teams participated in two final meets to conclude their 2011 seasons. The state championships took place on June 4, followed by the Milestat Elite Gala on Saturday.
MHS junior Christine Robbins competed in numerous events at the state meet at Radford University. Robbins continues to improve in the 300-meter hurdles, placing fourth this year, compared to her eighth-place finish last year.
Emily Brown also took a fourth-place finish, competing in the 400-meter dash. A freshman, Brown has a lot of room to grow, so the team is especially interested to see all that she will do during her time at MHS. Brown was a member of the 4x400 team, along with Mariah Davis, Sabrina Myers and Jessica Nelson. The team took a significant amount of time off their previous best and placed eighth.
