Flounder fishing has improved and the first cobia of the season was reported over the weekend.

Jerry Thrash of Queens Creek Outfitters, Cobbs Creek, reported that flounder fishing improved markedly over the past week in the Buoy 42/Cell areas. "Several boats had limits while others were skunked," Thrash said. "At last the fish seem to be moving in."

In other news, he said larger croaker to two pounds and some medium-sized spot have been available around Gwynn’s Island and in the creeks. He said schools of stripers and bluefish can be had chumming around structure. Thrash also reported that some keeper puppy drum have come from hard bottom in the Piankatank River.
