The Gloucester High School varsity boys’ soccer team got by Denbigh, 2-1, on the road Tuesday to improve to 5-3-1 in final Peninsula District standings. The Dukes will take on Group AA Tabb on the Tigers’ field today before preparing for the district tournament, which begins next Thursday at GHS.
Jordan White scored both goals against the Patriots in the first half on Tuesday. He hit one on a penalty kick and the other was assisted by Dylan Wyco.
The Dukes posted a win and two losses in action last week. Playing at Woodside on Friday, Gloucester lost, 3-2, in a thrilling back-and-forth match. The Wolverines caught the Dukes flat-footed and scored in the opening minutes, but White answered immediately to make it 1-1.
Woodside again took the lead moments later, but Cody Weaver assisted a goal by Cameron Cross to make it 2-2. Most of the second half was fought in the deadlock, but the Wolverines eventually broke it with a winning goal.
