The Gloucester High School girls’ tennis team is on a roll. The Lady Dukes have posted a 6-0 Peninsula District record with three matches remaining, the latest an 8-1 win over Woodside.
All five of the other Gloucester netters’ wins have been just as decisive, with no PD team taking more than two matches from the Dukes thus far.
The GHS team is led by senior co-captain Ellen Stringer who is playing at the number-one seed for the fourth consecutive year. Stringer was the 2009 Peninsula District singles champion and a finalist last season. She is 4-2 against the tough PD competition at the number-one slot. Christine Riddett at number two and junior Alyssa Weakland at number three have been strong and undefeated all season.
