MHS track teams second at invitational

Mathews High School’s track teams. boys and girls, placed second Saturday in the West Point Invitational at West Point High School.

Chris Foster led the boys’ charge, placing first in the high jump with a leap of 5’8". Foster also gained a personal record along with his fourth-place finish in the triple jump (37’10"). C.J. Kelly placed second in both the shot put with a throw of 42’5.75" and the discus with a toss of 108’.5". Deon Blake placed third in discus with a 102’6" throw.

Anthony Forrest finished fifth in long jump (17’11"), sixth in the 100 (11.87) and fifth in the 200 (24.19). Ian Smith took fourth in the 400 with a time of 55.31. Kyle Slaughter finished third in the 800 in 2:19.26.

Russell Reed led the distance squad, finishing first in the 1600 with a 4:47.94 and third in the 3200 with 11:13.14. John Miles placed fourth in both the 1600 (5:09.23) and the 3200 (11:34.14).
