The seventh annual Peace Frogs Bank to Bank Swim will be held on Sunday, May 29. After reaching their sponsorship goals, participants will swim a three-mile stretch of the York River.
In addition to individual swimmers, this year’s event will include teams who want to share both the swimming and the fundraising. Commitments have come in from a group of teens as well as from members of a local Boy Scout troop, who will also earn swim patches and community service awards.
Money raised from the Peace Frogs swim is used to support needy children. In past years, funds have gone to the Rural Infant Service Program, Child Development Resources, the Children’s Village, Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters and the Gloucester-Mathews Free Clinic children’s dental program.
Last year, participants’ efforts went to instruct more than 80 children how to swim through the efforts of the Boys and Girls Club, American Red Cross and others. This year, donations will go to extend that life-saving program.
