The Mathews High School wrestling team had a busy week, taking part in a tri-meet on Wednesday, Jan. 5, at Northumberland with Lancaster and the host Indians, and traveling to Franklin on Saturday, winning four dual matches and the tournament championship.
MHS had five starters out of the lineup last Wednesday, but enough backups to fill in, giving up only three forfeits to beat both teams. Mathews defeated Lancaster, 54-24. The Blue Devils had only six matches against Lancaster, winning five. Northumberland gave Mathews more of a battle, with the Devils winning that one, 45-30.
