Woodside scored on its first play from scrimmage and went on to beat Gloucester, 42-7, in Peninsula District football action Saturday. The bow to the third-place Wolverines leaves Gloucester 1-7 in the district and 2-7 overall heading into the Dukes’ final game of the regular season with Denbigh on Saturday.
After opening with a touchdown-scoring pass from a halfback, Woodside got into the end zone four more times to stack up a 35-0 advantage by halftime. The Dukes opened the second half with an onside kick and prevented a shutout when Brandon Petty scored on a short run. That was the only set of plays GHS coach Sonny Merchant enjoyed.
