The Mathews High School girls’ tennis team fell 5-4 at New Kent Monday. While the young Lady Devils’ squad put forth a solid effort, they fell short battling the strong, senior-laden Group 3A school, 5-4.

Elizabeth Ransone dropped a tough 8-4 mathews to the Trojans’ top-seed Clare Morris. Morgan Johnson stepped up to fill in the second-seed singles spot because Kate vanEmmerik was out due to illness, beating Britta Vanderpourt, 8-6.
