Gloucester High School closed out the 2013 football season with a 21-12 win at home over Menchville on Friday. The Dukes finished the year with a 2-7 record against Peninsula schools; 2-8 overall.
James Scott scored the first touchdown for the Dukes, rushing a short distance for an early score in the first quarter. The Monarchs got on the board in the first quarter with a field goal. They also tacked on a touchdown of their own with less than a minute remaining in the period.
In the second quarter, Scott delivered a pass to Jake Spector for a 34-yard touchdown reception and Jackson Lowther delivered his second of three successful point-after kicks to make it 14-9. Menchville added three more points to its score just before the half with a 30-yard field goal for a 14-12 half-time score.
