Blue Devils fall to Raiders

The Mathews High School varsity football team dropped to 0-5 last week following a 54-13 loss to the visiting Rappahannock Raiders.

Mathews picked up all its points in the first half, on a touchdown run by Austin Fravel and a TD pass from quarterback Will Harrington to Jesse Ingram. The Blue Devils trailed the Raiders 34-13 at the half. Dayshon Williamson rushed for 55 yards, while Fravel added 40 yards. With the win, the Raiders improved to 5-0.

The Devils will be looking to break into the win column this Friday night in the homecoming game match against the winless King and Queen Royal Tigers (0-5). Game time is 7 o’clock.

Jayvees fall, 54-14

The jayvee team lost by a nearly identical margin against the Rappahannock Raiders last Wednesday, 54-14. Jonathan Kincade scored both Blue Devil touchdowns in that game. The jayvee team was scheduled to face King and Queen on Tuesday night. This coming Monday, the Mathews jayvee squad will host King William, starting at 6:30 p.m.
