Gloucester gave Woodside a scare in football action Friday night but came up short of an upset in a 27-24 loss to the visiting Wolverines.
The Dukes’ defense was strong all night and held the speedy Wolverines (4-1) scoreless until the final seconds of the first quarter when Woodside scored on a 5-yard run.
Woodside managed two TDs in the second, one on a 22-yard run by Jay’Quan Lassiter and the second on a L.J. Taylor pass to Lassiter for 36 yards. The Gloucester offense also went to work and scored on a 32-yard pass from James Scott to Brady Barefoot just before halftime to make it 20-7.
