Youth football teams wrap up regular season

Gloucester Youth Football teams wrapped up the regular season on Saturday with games against Back River Panthers (Red Knights), Williamsburg Gold Hornets (White Knights) and Middlesex Colts (White Juniors).

RED MITES: Lost 49-14. Cameron Jackson led the Red Knights’ offense with 120 yards and a TD. Riley Pitts had 97 yards rushing and a TD. Pitts also caught three passes for 11 yards, including a two-point conversion. Michael Chapman completed all three passes. Jordan White was the offensive lineman of the game. On defense, Jackson had three tackles and recovered a fumble. Kyler Schomburg had three tackles and a sack. Pitts added two tackles and an interception. Malachi Davenport had three tackles. Evan Frazier and Kishon Cuffee added two tackles each, and Chapman recovered a fumble. Demiyah Thompkins, Austee West, Emery Duff and Aniya Carter were named most spirited cheerleaders.

RED MIGHTY MITES: Lost 19-7. Team advances to Peninsula Youth Football Association playoffs.

RED MIDGETS: Lost 27-12. Edward Wade and Blake Freeman both had 10 tackles for the Red Knights. Chad Kent, Conor Hodge, Jahmal Gray, and Howard Akridge each added six tackles. Warner Brush, Justice Albright, Hunter Hodge, Gavin Johnson and Allah Armstead had four tackles apiece. Clayton Craig had four tackles and three quarterback sacks. Tylon Forrest had three tackles and Tyrus Wilson had three tackles and a strip fumble recovery. On offense, Juwan Thornton had a six-yard touchdown run. Freeman had nine carries for 124 yards, including an 80-yard TD run. Akridge had four carries for 57 yards. Kent had four carries for 13 yards. Gray had two carries for six yards.

RED JUNIORS: Won 14-12; advances to Peninsula Youth Football Association playoffs. Jake Pickern passed for 69 yards and a TD. He also ran for 42 yards and an extra point. Peyton Carneal had 63 yards receiving. Xander Cooke caught a pass for six yards and rushed for 48 yards and a touchdown. Savion Spriggs added 18 yards and Cody Buffington picked up four yards on the ground. Wesley Robbins led the team with 63 yards rushing and an extra point. He also led the team in tackles with eight. Zach Ingram had six tackles, Devin Rivera made four tackles. Carneal also had four tackles, a forced fumble and fumble recovery. Spriggs, Tyrell Samuel and Charles Williams each had three tackles and an interception. Bailey Pitts added the fourth interception for the team. Jarius Monroe, Kyle Cherrie, Pickern and Kameron Cook all added tackles in the victory.
