Flotilla 66 of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary has announced three opportunities for boaters to satisfy the Virginia Boating Safety Education requirements, which are being phased in annually for operators of recreational boats and personal watercraft.

The class Boat Virginia will be offered from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad building at Hudgins.

All course materials and instruction by Flotilla 66 state-certificated instructors are free. A press release from the flotilla said topics will include Know Your Boat, Before You Get Underway, Operating Your Boat Safely, The Legal Requirements of Boating, Boating Emergencies—What to Do and Enjoying Water Sports With Your Boat.

Flotilla 66 will also be offering Boat Virginia on Oct. 16 and again on Nov. 13.

To register to attend any of these classes, call instructor Dick Cobb, 804-384-3209 or flotilla commander Jack Washburn 804-370-0182. Class size is limited and pre-registration is required, the release said.
