South gets no hitter for MHS
The Mathews High School jayvee softball team improved its record to 4-1 Tuesday with a decisive 23-0 shutout victory over the visiting Lancaster Red Devils.
Madison South pitched all five innings for Mathews in the contest which was shortened due to the mercy rule. South dominated the Red Devils from the mound, surrendering no hits and walking only three while striking out eight Lancaster batters.
The JV Blue Devils took control early, scoring five runs in the first inning on a pair of walks, a pair of hits by Torrie Walton and Emily Sorey, and a pair of fielding miscues by the Red Devils.
