Shaver wins inaugural Summer Heat 50 at VMS
On one of the hottest days of the year, the action on track was even hotter at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, as the Middlesex County track hosted the first visit Saturday by the Ultimate Super Late Models for the $10,000-to-win Summer Heat 50.
Steve Shaver of Vienna, W.Va., took over the top spot on lap 20 with an outside pass of Jamie Lathroum out of turn 2. Lathroum tried several times to get past Shaver for the lead, but each time Shaver held on to the spot and would go on to take the victory in the inaugural Summer Heat 50, collecting the $10,000 check.
In other action, Brett Adkins of Gloucester, came back from a 16th-place start to win his third race in a row in the Collision One Limited Stock Car 20-lap nightcap. Another Gloucester racer, David Bowler, placed fourth.
