The Mathews High School cross country teams once again dominated their Tidewater District competition, winning last Wednesday’s championship, which was held at Eastern State in Williamsburg.

Ten Blue Devil harriers received All-District honors, while Drew Greve was named Coach of the Year for both the MHS boys and girls. The boys’ team also won the district’s sportsmanship award.

The Mathews boys posted a 20-point win over Middlesex (71), King William (72) and West Point (82). The Lady Devils defeated their competition with a 27-point victory against King William (45), West Point (71) and Middlesex (96).

Leading the Blue Devils was Kyle Slaughter, receiving second-place All-District honors with a time of 18:36. Following him in third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh places, respectively, were Elisha Kane (18:56), Justin Adams (19:19), Nick Brown (19:25), Sam Jasinski (19:29) and Tucker Blackwell (19:30). Ricky Rutter completed the course just behind them, in 19:52.
