MHS girls pick up two district wins, ready for playoffs
Following wins over Tidewater District foes King William and King and Queen during the past week, the Mathews High School varsity girls’ basketball team is preparing for post-season play.
The MHS girls, who had a 6-1 district record going into Wednesday night’s season-ending contest against King and Queen, will be the top-seeded team with a win. Results from that game were not available at press time.
The Lady Devils defeated King William on the road last Thursday, 32-21. Mathews had early trouble putting the ball in the basket, trailing the hosts, 7-6, after one quarter, but recovered to take a 18-16 lead into the halftime break. King William was very inconsistent offensively in the second half and Mathews took advantage to pull away with an 11-point final margin.
