MHS boys post two slaughter-rule wins
Mathews picked up two important conference victories last week, defeating the King and Queen Tigers and Charles City Panthers.
The Blue Devils erupted for seven first-inning runs last Thursday on the way to a 20-1 win over the homestanding Tigers. Mathews was helped out by magnificent no-hit pitching from William Smith in the slaughter-rule shortened game.
Smith pitched the full five innings and allowed no hits while he struck out 11 for the win. Marshall Barrack tallied three RBIs, while Paul Burnette and Taiwan Forrest each drove in two.
The Devils were on the road again Tuesday to meet the Panthers, where they struck first with eight runs in the top of the first inning.
