Lady Dukes crush opponents

Gloucester High School varsity softball players won a pair of 23-0 games in recent action, beating Denbigh on Friday and Phoebus on Saturday morning.

Makayla Jenkins threw a no-hitter to the Patriots and tallied seven RBIs with three hits. Amber Cook and Ashley Williams had three hits each, with Williams driving in four runs. Hannah Joyce and Rhiannon Miller also had multiple hits in the win.

Gloucester pounded out 15 hits against the Phantoms, led by Joyce with five hits, three RBIs and five runs scored. Jenkins had four hits, including a third-inning home run, and seven RBIs. Williams and Gabby Zarichny had two hits each and combined for five RBIs. On the mound, Jenkins gave up three hits and struck out 14 batters without issuing a walk.

The Gloucester players remain unbeaten at the top of the Peninsula District standings. The Dukes travel to meet the Blue Devils in Mathews at 6:30 p.m. today, host Bethel Friday at 4:30 p.m. and head to Menchville on Tuesday.
