Lady Dukes 6-0 with three more wins
Gloucester continued its undefeated roll down the Peninsula District softball schedule with three wins in recent action to improve to 6-0. The Dukes added the sixth win Tuesday with a 5-1 victory over visiting Kecoughtan.
Gloucester put together timely hitting and defense for the win over the Warriors. Makayla Jenkins picked up the win when she gave up two hits in 3 2/3 innings of solid pitching in relief of starting pitcher Taylor Distefano. Distefano gave up one unearned run in 3 1/3 innings of work.
The Dukes jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the opening inning by taking advantage of a walk by Hannah Joyce, a base hit from Amber Cook, an error and an illegal pitch. They tacked on another run in the second inning as Joyce singled, stole second base and scored on a sharply hit single by Cook.
Kecoughtan closed the gap to 2-1 in the third inning with an unearned run. When they threatened again in the fourth with the bases loaded and one out, Jenkins left her position at first base to relieve Distefano.
