The Mathews High School jayvee baseball team has been on a roll in the past few weeks, sweeping district and non-district play.

In non-district games, Mathews has defeated Lancaster twice, by scores of 17-6 and 6-1; Essex by a 20-10 margin; and New Kent, 9-6.

In district play, they defeated a tough King William team last Thursday, 6-4. Willie Fernald picked up the win against King William, throwing four innings and allowing only one run. James Cook closed the game.
