Jayvee Devils beat Northumberland, Essex
The Mathews High School jayvee volleyball team picked up a couple non-district wins this past week, beating Northumberland and Essex in a pair of road games.
Last Thursday, it took three sets to defeat the Northumberland Indians. After dropping the first set by a score of 25-17, Mathews came back fired up to defeat the Indians, 25-16. Northumberland was not going down without a fight, but the Devils eventually prevailed, 17-15.
"Although we had too many missed serves, several at key times in the third set, we still played a good game," coach Tina Reece said. "The girls passed and communicated very well throughout the entire match, and it really showed in the end."
