High school wrestling action: GHS matmen dominate in tri-match
After dominating their opponents in the final Peninsula District tri-match of the season, Gloucester High School wrestlers went 1-2 in the Virginia Duals last week.
In district action, the host Dukes beat Bethel, 56-24, and Woodside, 57-21, on Jan. 9. Pinning their Bethel opponents were Matt Favazzo at 113 lbs. in 1:55, Glenn Lewis at 138 lbs. in 2:51, Robert Leso at 160 in 32 seconds, Ethan Newell at 182 in 50 seconds and Jerry Woodlief at 220 in 49 seconds.
Also, Anthony Monahan at 120 won a 7-2 decision, A.J. Ransom at 145 won by technical fall in 3:27 and Jordan Schaal at 132 won by injury default. Gloucester also benefited from four forfeits.
Against Woodside, pins went to Monahan in 1:41, Schaal in 3:08, Lewis in 1:11, Ransom in 3:52, Leso in 3:09, Devon Pullen at 170 in 51 seconds and Newell in 1:54. Levi Reeves at 195 won a 9-5 decision and each team had a pair of forfeits.
