GHS girls unbeaten in PD season record

Gloucester High School varsity field hockey players went undefeated in the Peninsula District for the second consecutive year and again claimed the PD regular season title last week. The Gloucester girls will try to add the PD tournament trophy to their successful season next week.

The Dukes secured the regular season crown on Oct. 10 with a 6-1 win over Warwick, delivering the Raiders only their second loss of the season. A loss to Warwick would have meant a playoff prior to the PD Tournament next week. "The girls seem to play pretty well in big games," said Gloucester coach Mike Miller.

Miller said he has some talented players this season but no spotlight grabbers. "I was really pleased with the way they came together on the field and complemented each other so well, and it was a total team effort when it came down to defense." The Gloucester "D" only allowed one district goal and that was in the final PD game with the Raiders last week.

Cassidy Goodwin and Kayla Sadler each scored twice in the win over Warwick and the Dukes got goals from Courtnie Greene and Bri Greene. Tori Harwood and Goodwin had two assists each, and assists were credited to Simone LaGuardia, Missy Stroup, C. Greene and B. Greene.
