GHS girls post two soccer shutouts
The Gloucester High School varsity girls’ soccer team posted two more shutouts in recent Peninsula District play at Mary Passage Field in Newport News. The Dukes got by Woodside, 1-0, last week and beat Denbigh, 9-0, on Tuesday.
Midway through the first half with Woodside, the Wolverines were called for a hand ball in the keeper box. Mary Williams took the shot for Gloucester and scored the lone goal of the game for the 1-0 win.
Delaney Doyle scored the first goal against the Patriots, pounding in a shot from the 18-yard line. Lauren Orga struck for the next two goals with assists from Doyle and Audrey Collier. Rachael Peterson and defender McKensie Fischer, who rushed the net from the 25-yard mark, each scored to make it 5-0.
