Flounder fishing beginning to pick up
Flounder fishing may be starting to pick up, according to reports from local anglers, while croaker fishing has been good near the shore.
"The croaker bite has just started in the York River," according to Chuck Ashe with York River Feed and Fishing Supplies, Gloucester Point. He reported croakers and flounder being caught at the Gloucester Point Fishing Pier.
Medium-sized croakers are available in the creeks from docks and along river banks on bloodworms and squid, according to Jerry Thrash of Queens Creek Outfitters, Cobbs Creek.
Flounder anglers venturing across the Chesapeake Bay continue to be disappointed, he added. "It appears that flounder are holding to the shallows with some keepers caught in waters 4-20 feet deep," Thrash said.
