Gloucester is still looking for a Peninsula District football win after a 31-3 loss against Menchville on Saturday. The Dukes were held to less than 100 yards of offense and only a field goal by Jackson Lowther in the final quarter saved a shutout.

For the Monarchs, who were celebrating homecoming in Darling Stadium, it was all Clifton Richardson. Richardson carried the ball 27 times, racking up 167 yards and two touchdowns. Menchville got on the board in the first quarter with a field goal before Richardson scored TDs in the second and third quarters. The Monarchs tacked on two more touchdowns in the fourth before Lowther put Gloucester on the board.

"They were just inconsistent. They would make a good play then turn around and go back to the same mistakes they were making early on, the same things we ironed out in practice," said GHS head coach Sonny Merchant.

Merchant could not cite a reason for his team’s lack of drive after a win over Granby followed by a great job last week against a top-ranked Bethel squad.
