Dukes fall short against Phantoms, 41-20
Gloucester fell to Phoebus, 41-20, to open the 2013 football season last Thursday night at Darling Stadium in Hampton. "I thought we played real hard, but turnovers really hurt us," said new GHS head coach Brandon Kelley.
The first three quarters belonged to the Phantoms. Two first-period fumbles and another in the second helped Phoebus to three touchdowns and a 21-0 lead going into the third. The Phantoms used their passing game to add two more TDs in the third quarter to make it 35-0.
The tide turned for Gloucester in the fourth when junior Devon Pullen ran the ball in from just inside the 20-yard line to put the Dukes on the board. The kick by senior Jackson Lowther was good and the score stood at 35-7.
