Devils pass first preseason test
Although the Mathews High School varsity football team failed to score in Friday’s preseason scrimmage with Jamestown, the Blue Devils held their own against the AA squad from Jamestown.
"Jamestown is a physically big team that is projected to do well in the Bay Rivers this season. I thought our team performed well. Jamestown scored once and we had an opportunity to score and did not," MHS head coach Paul White said.
Mathews was able to move the ball on offense, which operates out of a wing-T formation. There weren’t too many miscues on the offensive line, and the defense had an interception and performed well against the Eagles’ rushing game.
