The Mathews High School wrestling team split a home tri-meet last Wednesday against Nandua and King and Queen. Mathews fell to the Warriors, 45-27, and defeated the Tigers, 51-12.

Mathews had several wrestlers out for various reasons, forfeiting at the 106, 113, 170 and 285-pound classes against Nandua. The 170-pound class was a double forfeit, with the Warriors not fielding a wrestler either.

Winners for Mathews in the Nandua meet included Sam Moore (135 lbs., pinned Bailey Bernard in 3:46), Caleb Miller (126 lbs., pinned Clark Hurst in 1:05), Parker Thompson (138 lbs., pinned Hunter Cooper in 4:32), A.J. White (182 lbs., won by 5-2 decision over Bryan Wade) and Austin Fravel (195 lbs., pinned Diego Jimenez in 3:01). Jon Oliver (120 lbs.), Thomas Hall (152 lbs.) and Ronald Rife (160 lbs.) lost by pin, Tyler Zabel (145 lbs.) lost by a technical fall, and Isaiah Maultsby (220 lbs.) lost 12-3 in his first varsity match. In exhibition bouts, Lilly Thompson got pinned at 145 lbs. and Joey Scales pinned his opponent at 182 lbs.
