Devil booters fall in rain-soaked affair, 5-3
In spite of the rain, the Mathews High School varsity soccer team went ahead with its game Monday night against Middlesex. The visiting Chargers prevailed in the muddy affair, winning 5-3.
As rain poured down on the Mathews field, the Devils and the Chargers fought for possession as the ball skipped and splattered across the field. The Devils were set back by one goal early in the first half, but freshman Jordan Bozza was able to maneuver around the Chargers’ defense and put a shot into the back of the net.
The Devils then switched the pressure to the Chargers and kept the ball on the other half, with a deflection from a free kick by Jesse Sekatawa slipping into the goal and putting Mathews up, 2-1, in the first half.
