Fishing in local waters is beginning to pick up. Jerry Thrash of Queens Creek Outfitters, Cobbs Creek, reported small to medium-sized croakers are available in the creek from docks on bloodworms and squid.

Anglers searching for flounder have been disappointed for the most part, Thrash added, reporting a few keeper flounder showed up on the western side around Gwynn’s Island this past weekend.

Thrash said the store registered its first release citation speckled trout Tuesday. It measured 24.25 inches, and was caught in the North River by Michael Hudgins of Cobbs Creek. He also hooked a second keeper speck, Thrash said.
