The string of bad luck finally came to an end for "The Faster Pastor" Tom Cohick of Gloucester, as he picked up his first win of the 2010 season in the Victory Lap Late Model division at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway.

Although he led 34 of the 35 laps, the win didn’t come easy for Cohick as he had to fend off the advances by both Ben Bowie and Scott Adams. Cohick would go on to take the win with Adams close behind in second and Bowie taking third at the checkered flag.

"We have been working really hard to get this win this year, we finally got the monkey off our back," commented a very excited Cohick in victory lane.

In other action Brian Maxey of King George, nipped Dan Arnold of Petersburg, at the line by .06 of a second to pick up his second Budweiser Modified victory. In the Truckin’ Thunder Sportsman, Taylor Dogget of Ruther Glen, picked up his career first victory and in the Collision One Limited Stock Cars it was Joe Enders of Glen Allen, scoring his career first victory.

Among local racers, Brandon Galloway and Brett Adkins, both of Gloucester, placed fifth in the Budweiser Modified 25 lap and Limited Stock Car 20 lap features, respectively.

The Middlesex County track will take off the July 4 weekend, returning to racing action on Saturday, July 10 to host the Steel Block Bandits in the $2,000-to-win Firecracker 30. The night will also include a huge belated 4th of July fireworks extravaganza.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track, is a half-mile dirt oval on Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda. For more information, call the speedway office at 758-1VMS or visit the track online at www.vamotorspeedway.com.
